About the Initiative

When a community reaches a tipping point, we start to see cultural change.

Illuminate Colorado created this initiative to empower adults to protect children in every community in Colorado from experiencing child sexual abuse.

Our organization and local facilitators have trained more than 10,000 people in Colorado to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

This is no small feat, but it is a far cry from reaching the necessary critical milestone in child protection that we need to effectively prevent child sexual abuse in Colorado.

Calculating the number of people who need to receive training in every county in Colorado and understanding what is necessary to create REAL social change in a community, our organization identified the tipping point for our state, as well as each county, where children grow up happy, healthy and safe in communities that prevent children from experiencing sexual abuse.

Thanks in large part to support from the Colorado Child Abuse Prevention Trust Fund in the Department of Early Childhood, all Coloradans can currently take these trainings FREE in-person or online.

We are also empowering other facilitators to deliver these proven trainings in workplaces, schools and neighborhoods on an ongoing basis to create a new standard of child safety in your community and throughout Colorado.

While it may take many years to reach the Colorado tipping point, smaller communities and individual counties may get there relatively quickly if families, organizations, neighborhoods and community leaders make the prevention of child sexual abuse a priority.

If enough people get trained to prevent child sexual abuse, together, we can reach a tipping point in Colorado where children grow up happy, healthy and safe in communities that prevent children from experiencing sexual abuse.
